Online Resources for Freelancers

woman & computer Pictures, Images and PhotosThere are so many fabulous online resources for freelancers.  I've utilized many blogs and websites to learn about the ins and outs of freelance writing, to follow other writers' journeys, and to find job leads.  I'd like to name a few of my favorites here just to get you started, if you're new to freelancing.

Freelance Parent is a great resource for all freelancers, not just parents.  Freelance Parent is one of a number of channels on the very popular site of work-at-home resources, Sparkplugging.  Lorna Doone Brewer and Tamara Berry share knowledge gained through starting their business, the Berry-Brewer Agency.  Lorna and Tamara have built a successful freelance writing business in just over a year.  Their success is inspiring.  You can also take some great online courses through them.

Freelance Switch provides advice, resources, and a job board for all kinds of freelancers. This site is definitely worth perusing.  Freelance Switch provides loads of information on the ins and outs of all aspects of the freelance life.

Inkthinker is Kristen King's freelancing blog. Kristen tackles topics related to freelancing from the business side of things to topics that are just for fun.  Kristen chroncles her "journey from freelance wannabe to real, live freelance writer".  I love reading the real-life experiences of others.  Kristen is generous in her sharing and support.  Her blog is definitely a community worth checking out.

Write From Home is another entertaining, interactive blog on freelancing from my Twitter buddy, Amy Derby.  Amy is down to earth and engaging; she's created an active community at her blog.  She provides wonderful resources, paying markets, and job leads as well as highlighting some great freelance reads from across the web.  Visit Amy today, and tell her Mary and "Greenbean Boy" (her nickname for my son, Brady) sent you!

The Urban Muse is Susan Johnston's blog. Susan is a full-time, successful freelance writer who left her job in the traditional workforce behind not too long ago.  She has great content that will help you along your way to getting your freelancing career off the ground.  Don't just take my word for it though - her blog was named one of Writer's Digest's 101 Best Websites for Writers, so you know it's a must-read!

Freelance Writing Jobs is headed up by writer Deb Ng and has recently expanded into a blog network of various writing experts.  You won't just find job leads here anymore.  There are sections on article writing tips, business tips for writers, and network blogging tips among other gems. Take some time to explore the site for the great content and advice, as well as for the awesome job leads.

Okay, now, go!  Spend some time with these online resources to get you started.  I know there are so many useful sites out there I haven't included on this list. These are the ones I visit regularly. Let me know which ones you like best.  Also, please share if there are resources you read regularly that I haven't included.
